Development of laser surface texturing technology for automotive applications (TSDP-DST)
Overall Project Goal: Develop and implement advanced ultrafast laser surface texturing technology for automotive components that improves the engine efficiency.
The specific objectives are:
- To establish an ultrafast laser surface texturing facility suitable for all geometries and to study the effect of process parameters on dimple/texture aspect ratio and predict optimum process parameters
- To apply laser surface texturing to upgrade the tribological performance of selective automotive components
- To study the influence of texturing pattern, dimple orientation on the emission and performance characteristics of engine
- Practical and Economical aspects of the implementation of laser surface texturing technology for automotive applications
The deliverables are:
- Development of ultrafast laser surface texturing system for inner bore of cylinder liner, piston rings and connecting rod eyes of an automotive engine.
- Microsurface texturing technology for three automotive engine components
