Director's Message

At the International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials (ARCI), Hyderabad, we transform advanced materials research into deployable technologies that drive India’s industrial competitiveness and strategic self-reliance. For three decades, our mandate has guided us to develop innovative, techno-commercially viable solutions and transfer them effectively to industry and strategic sectors.

ARCI serves high-performance material markets through advanced technology development and transfer in focused domains, including advanced materials and batteries, ceramics, surface engineering, laser processing, solar and hydrogen energy materials, advanced powder metallurgy, and rare earth materials and magnets. Our work is supported by outstanding infrastructure for material development and processing technologies, complemented by excellent characterisation facilities that enable precise analysis, validation, and performance optimisation.

What sets ARCI apart is execution—bridging laboratory breakthroughs to pilot-scale validation, demonstration, and commercialization. We have delivered over 350 technological solutions, filed more than 200 patents, and achieved 50 technology/know-how transfers, supporting national missions in defence, space, clean energy, e-mobility, nuclear, aerospace, hydrogen, and advanced manufacturing. Our proven capability in product and process development, pilot-scale demonstration and incubation ensures that innovation moves beyond research into real-world deployment.

Our highly motivated scientific and technical workforce continues to drive innovation, entrepreneurship, and measurable impact. Despite a lean workforce, ARCI has made significant national contributions, reflecting high institutional efficiency and a deeply committed team.  Through PhD programmes, industry-linked training, and the Advanced Materials Technology Incubator (AMTI), we foster human resource development, scientist-entrepreneurs, startups, MSMEs, and a future-ready materials ecosystem.

As India embarks on the journey towards Viksit Bharat 2047, advanced materials will underpin clean energy systems, resilient infrastructure, strategic technologies, next-generation manufacturing and societal needs. ARCI remains committed to delivering high-TRL and scalable innovations that strengthen India’s critical material capabilities, thereby propelling a self-reliant and globally competitive nation.
