Biography
BE (Metallurgical Engineering, First Class with Distinction, NITT), M.Tech (Metallurgical Engineering & Material Science, First Class, IITB) and PhD (Materials Engineering, IISc, Bangalore) with 4 years of industrial experience, 25 years of research experience in the field of ferrous powder metallurgy (power synthesis, thermo-mechanical processing, metal injection molding, spark plasma sintering), cermet for cutting tools, nano-materials by vapour phase synthesis, flame spraying, plasma synthesis, processing for structural and functional applications, magnetic materials, thermoelectric materials and metal foams for thermal energy storage and management. Four years of industrial experience involved quality control and management in the heavy earth mover manufacturing industry, where I was responsible for Non-destructive testing (NDT) of casting, forging, and heat-treated parts. Published 2 Indian Patents, 50 peer-reviewed papers in reputed journals, guided 2 PhD students, 15 M.Tech students, 13 B.Tech students in various fields of research. Delivered 9 invited talks, attended 3 international and 10 national conferences. Delivered guest lectures in various deemed universities and IITs. DC member of several PhD theses in various deemed universities. Reviewer for several reputed journals.
Instrumental in setting up the state-of-the-art magnetic materials research facilities for developing both soft and hard magnetic materials, and thermoelectric materials research facilities. Through industrial collaboration, a 200W thermoelectric generator was developed to produce power from the exhaust waste heat of automobiles. The conversion of steel plant waste heat to power through thermoelectric technology was successfully demonstrated using indigenously developed thermoelectric modules.
Winner of the First prize in the Mi1st prize in Electron Microscopy Conference (EMSI-2011) held in Hyderabad for the best SEM investigation. Affiliation to various Professional Societies, viz. Life member of the Indian Institute of Metals, INDIA, Life member of the Powder Metallurgical Association of INDIA (PMAI), Life member of the International Thermoelectric Society (ICT), Life member of the Materials Research Society of INDIA (MRSI), Member of the American Society for Materials (ASM) Chennai chapter.
