Biography

Mr BABU L worked as a Project Technician in IIT Madras from 1995 to 2001 in the project of Technology Development on New Materials (TDM). Later, joined ARCI – Chennai as a Project Technical Assistant in 2004, working on the development of the PEM Fuel Cell. Involved in the area of Flow field design drafting, 3D modelling, Design, development and fabrication of PEM Fuel cell stack components, Cell assembly (1 - 10KW module), Integration of other testing devices, assembled and integrated 30kWh PEM fuel cell stack and tested, cell testing, validation of fuel cell stacks, Data acquisition and identified the local material supply chain. Later worked as a Project Scientist at the Centre for Automotive Energy Materials (CAEM), ARCI Chennai, in the development of lithium-ion batteries for EV applications from 2015. In battery development, mainly involved in design and development of battery components, fiber Laser welding, design and development of cylindrical, (2 to 15Ah), Prismatic (15 to 25Ah) and pouch cells (10 to 20Ah), cell validation, Battery pack assembly, integration of battery pack with e-vehicle, safety tests using Accelerated rate calorimeter (ARC), and fabrication of LIB process equipment for laboratory level. Assembled 48V – 300Wh (Cylindrical cell) and 48V- 1.2kWh (Prismatic Cell) pack, integrated the battery pack and demonstrated E-cycle, E-scooter, and solar lamp, Indigenous development of semi-automatic Pouch cell stacking machine (up to 25Ah cells), and identified Local supply chain for the cell components. Currently working as a Technical Officer –C in the Centre for Advanced Materials and Batteries (CAMB). The work involves setting up 2MWh rapid prototype facilities at ARCI Hyderabad for the fabrication of Li-ion/Na-ion batteries. Collaboration with industry partners for technology transfer, guiding project students (undergraduate and postgraduate), research fellows and technical assistants, preparing technical reports, cost estimation for project proposals, deriving specifications for lab equipments, dry room facility and utilities, material and cost estimation.
