Zoz-ARCI center for high energy horizontal ball mill (Simolayer) Technology
Collaborator: Zoz GmbH
R. Vijay

A high energy horizontal ball mill, Simolayer CM-08, is set up on a joint project between ARCI and Zoz GmbH, Germany, for the production of nanostructured and high performance materials. The equipment is capable of producing 1 kg of nanostructured powders per batch. The materials being produced include nanostructured zinc flakes for anti corrosion paints, nanostructured Zn-Al flakes for cold gas dynamic spraying applications, nanostructured Ag flakes for additives in soldering paste, oxide dispersion strengthened materials, hydrogen storage materials, etc.

Hydrogen Storage Materials
R. Vijay

Hydrogen has high potential to be a renewable substitute for fossil fuels due to its high gravimetric energy density. In addition, it is also an eco-friendly fuel. The major issues in wide use of hydrogen as renewable fuel include storage and transportation. Several materials are being studied for hydrogen storage viz. FeTi based materials, magnesium based materials and complex metal hydrides.
