Self cleaning ceramic tiles and glass windows
K. Murugan
Self cleaning ceramic glaze tiles and glass are being developed with nanostructured titania coating. Nano titania is being produced by various synthesis routes and is dip coated on ceramic glaze and microscope glass. The dip-coated tiles are subsequently fired at different temperatures.

Technology for nano silver coated ceramic drinking water filters has been successfully developed and commercialized. The amount of silver present in the filtered water is well below the EPA permissible level for safe drinking water. The antibacterial effect of the nano silver coated ceramic drinking water filter conforms to IS 1622:1981 for E-coli and was also put on field trials in rural areas in collaboration with the Byrraju Foundation. Currently, new techniques are being developed for reducing the silver loading as well as improved antibacterial performance.
