Dr G PADMANABHAM is presently Associate Director of International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy & New Materials (ARCI), Hyderabad and also Heads the Centre for Laser Processing of Materials (CLPM) at ARCI.
He did his BE (Mechanical Engineering) from Andhra University, Vizag, MTech (Industrial Metallurgy) from REC, Warangal and PhD (Welding) from IIT, Delhi.
He started his career as Design & Development Engineer at Bharat Dynamics Limited, a PSU, which manufactures missiles. He then moved to Ministry of Science & Technology, Delhi and was involved in initiation / implementation of various scientific & technological programmes related to materials research, setting up of the ARCI laboratory, setting up of the laser centre, Scientific & Technological cooperation with Japan, Germany and Soviet Union.
His main research area has been welding of Al-Li alloys. His a reas of expertise include materials joining – fusion welding of various materials like aluminium alloys, steels, titanium alloys using and laser beam and shielded arc welding processes and their evaluation for mechanical and metallurgical behavior; metal-ceramic joining by vacuum brazing and their evaluation; development of high power laser based manufacturing processes like welding, surface engineering and drilling for application in automotive, aerospace, power and other engineering fields.
He is a recipient of German DAAD fellowship and Japanese JICA fellowship as part of which he had research stints at University of Technology-Dresden, Germany and University of Industrial Technology, Tokyo, Japan. He has publications on Al-Li welding, Metal–Ceramic joining and laser processing. He was the founder treasurer and currently national council member of Indian Welding Society. He is also life member of the Indian Institute of Welding, Indian Institute of Metals and Member of SAE India and ASM.
DR K S DHATHATHREYAN is presently Associate Director of International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy & New Materials (ARCI), Hyderabad and also Heads the Centre for Fuel Cell Technology (CFCT), Chennai.
He received BSc (Hons) [Chemistry] and MSc [Chemistry] degrees from Bangalore University and PhD from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He was a recipient of the Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship from Germany and worked at the University of Goettingen, Germany. He also worked at the Max-Planck Institute on a fellowship from Max-Plank Society. He also held post-doctoral positions at the University of Groningen, The Netherlands and University of Calgary, Canada.
He worked at SPIC Science Foundation for 14 years before joining ARCI. His research interest include various aspects of materials science and electrochemical energy conversion devices systems. During the last 19 years he has been engaged in Research, Development and Demonstration of various Hydrogen Technologies: Fuel cells, Hydrogen storage materials, Hydrogen sensors, Hydrogen production and electric vehicles.
